HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Yellow Jackets continued their roll last the night before as they came out to a 6-2 lead. AIC continued to control the pace of play and led 15-11 when rookie Paola Alejandra Soto-Burgos started a run with a kill. Rookie Dora Butkvoic and second-year Mai-Lani Hernandez stuffed a Redhawk attack to inch the Yellow Jackets closer to 25. The Redhawks scored a point before AIC took the next six points to make it 23-12, ultimately taking the set 25-16.
- Knotted at a point in the second set, the Yellow Jackets used kills by sophomore Janae Kelly and Butkovic, an ace by Kelly, and forcing three Redhawk errors to take the 7-1 lead. AIC kept the tempo moving and continued to widen their lead to as many as nine with a score of 15-6.
- Leading 18-12, Soto-Burgos started another run that included an ace by Kelly, a kill by freshman Aleksandra Ivanovic, two more kills from Soto-Burgos, and a block by Soto-Burgos and Ivanovic. The final point of the set came off a pass from sophomore Naomi Eckert-Rivera to Soto-Burgos who finished with authority.
- With the taste of a clean weekend in the loss column, the Yellow Jackets kept the pedal to the metal and did not look in the rearview mirror. The inflection point of the match came when AIC led 12-10 as the fast tempo forced two Redhawks errors follow by another kill from Soto-Burgos. Roberts Wesleyan gained a point before newcomer Amber Williams add a tally to her kill total. Classmate Ulrika Blomgren recorded an ace followed by a kill from the hot hand of Soto-Burgos. Junior Amanda Rodriguez ended the match with a skillfully placed ace to give AIC 25 points.
