HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams battled through the first three innings combining for three hits.
  • The pendulum swung towards the Panthers in the bottom of the fourth as they scored six runs on six hits to take the lead.
  • To lead off the start of the sixth junior Cam Defeo gave the Yellow Jackets their first hit of the day with a single through the left side. Senior Angel Mendez laid down a beautiful, as Bruce Almighty would say, bunt down and moved Defeo over to second. Defeo took third and scored on balks committed by starting pitcher Nicolas Luc. With two outs, senior Matt Krause reached on a single and classmate Matt Costanza was hit by a pitch. Luc was able to settle down with a strikeout to end the threat.
  • The Panthers added a pair of runs in their half of the eighth to extend their lead.
  • Redshirt-junior Dalton Quinn led the inning off with a homer to left that made it 8-2. That was as close as the Yellow Jackets got as after a pitching change, the Panthers rang up three hitters in a row end the game.
NEXT UP:
  • AIC advances to the Southwest Division Semifinal and will visit Adelphi University on Thursday, May 13 at 3:30 p.m. in Garden City, New York.
