WEST HAVEN, CONN.- The American International College softball team lost a two-game series with the University of New Have Chargers in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 22.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- New Haven's Nahtali Simpson opened up the scoring in the first inning on a double to right center by Morgan Fisher. Following shortly after was Fisher on a single up the middle by Jovanna Hillman, to bring the score to 2-0 Chargers.
- The Chargers increased their lead in the fifth inning, adding another four runs. Ellie Frederick scored on a single by Hailey LaForte. Mya Case and Ashley Veisz scored on a double to left center by Fitzmaurice who was then brought home by Simpson. Simpson was brought home shortly after on a single to right center by Fisher, giving a 7-0 lead to the Chargers that ended up as the final.
Game 2:
- The Chargers struck first in the second inning when Ellie Frederick scored on a single by LaForte up the middle. Case and LaForte both were brought home on a triple to left center by Fitzmaurice, making their lead 3-0 after two.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Fitzmaurice and Case scored on a homer by Simpson, increasing their lead to 6-0.
- The Yellow Jackets staged their comeback in the top of the sixth as Kodi Gora hit a home run that brought both Makaylah Mutz and Brianna Harzula home to cut the Chargers lead in half, 6-3.
- Hailey Polisano sealed the Chargers victory as she was brought home by Megan Anderson's double to right center, making the final score 7-3 Chargers.
NEXT UP:
- The Yellow Jackets will be in action again on Tuesday, April 27 against New Haven to make-up the doubleheader originally scheduled on Wednesday, April 21, that was postponed due to the weather. The games are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. start times.
