HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- The Owls came into the game hot as they scored a run in the first frame.
- The Yellow Jackets used back-to-back two-out singles in the bottom of the first by senior Kacie Allison and junior Victoria Andrade to get a runner in scoring position. Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, they were not able to score.
- Southern Connecticut kept its bats rolling as the Owls scored four runs in the second and eight in the fourth inning as they took the 13-0 lead.
Game 2:
- The Owls scored a run in each of the first two innings to take the early 2-0 lead.
- AIC start to string things together in the bottom of the second inning. Andrade led the frame off with a single. Senior Makayla Mutz laid down a bunt and moved Andrade over to second. Sophomore Mackenzie Berman grounded out to second. As the first baseman caught the ball she noticed Andrade was headed home but the throw was wild and it allowed the runner to score.
- The Owls answered with a pair of runs in the next frame to go ahead 4-1.
- With two outs in the bottom frame, graduate student Jalia Santos singled to right. Freshman Brianna Harzula tripled, which allowed Santos to score.
- The Yellow Jackets continued to score in their next set of at-bats. Just like the second inning, Andrade led things off with a walk. Mutz singled through the right side of the infield and Andrade moved to third. Berman laid down a beautiful bunt that died five feet in front of the plate which allowed her to reach base but also allowed Andrade to score to make it 4-3.
- The Owls once again extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning.
- In the bottom of the frame, with two outs and the bases loaded, Harzula singled to right and Erti scored to make it 6-4.
- The Owls added four more runs in their half of the seventh to extend their lead.
- AIC added a run in the bottom of the seventh on a double by Erti, but it was not enough as the Owls took the game 10-5.
