HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- In the bottom of the first inning, graduate student Jalia Santos led the Yellow Jackets off with a double that came as part of a 10-pitch at-bat. Junior Noelle Gramlich singled and gave the Yellow Jackets runners on the corners. Senior Kacie Allison laid down a perfect bunt which allowed her to reach first and moved Gramlich into scoring position.
- Junior Victoria Andrade took a pitch deep over the left-center wall that almost hit the scoreboard for a grand slam.
- The Yellow Jackets continued to put pressure on the Owls as two hitters later rookie Kodi Gora scored on a single by classmate Brianna Harzula. Harzula touched home on a home run by classmate Isabella Erti, who hit the dinger in her first collegiate at-bat. After a pitching change, the new Owls pitcher was able to record the final two outs of the inning.
- The Owls answered with three runs off two hits in the top of the inning to make it a 7-2 game. They held the Yellow Jackets scoreless in the next two innings before adding two runs in the top of the fourth to make it a two-run game.
- Not liking the smaller lead, Santos took the Owls deep to left-center to lead off the bottom of the fourth.
- With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Harzula singled and then reached second on a single by Erti. After another pitching change by the Owls, freshman Abigail Wells singled and drove in Harzula from second to make it a 9-5 game.
- The Owls knew they had to start putting the ball into play in the top of the sixth. They did just that as a hit and an error allowed them to score two runs and pull it back to a two-run game.
- In the top of the seventh, the Owls first three batters reached to load the bases. Sophomore Chloe Jones forced back-to-back fielder's choices as AIC recorded two putouts at home. To seal the game, Jones struck out Botteon swinging.
Game 2:
- The Owls started the game by scoring a run in the top of the first and second innings to take the early lead, with pitcher Jessica Perucki going deep in the second to help her own cause. They doubled their lead in the third inning on three hits, all with two outs.
- Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Andrade led the Yellow Jackets with a single. Gora followed with a walk. Erti made contact and forced an error by the Owls pitcher that allowed AIC to load the bases. Berman dug in and send a fly ball to deep center which allowed Andrade to tag and score. After a strikeout, Wells singled through the left side to load the bases again. Santos hit the ball up to second and the Owls tried to get the out at second but the flip was not caught by the second basemen which allowed a run to score. As the play continued, Wells tried to take third as Gora headed home, but was tagged out after Gora touched the plate which allowed the run to count. After four innings on play, the Owls led 5-3.
- The Owls added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning.
- Santos led the bottom frame with a single before being putout on a fielder's choice. With one on and one out, Allison hit a ball deep to left field that was caught on the warning track for the second out. The Owls ended up taking the game 7-3.
