HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- The Hawks came out of the gate early and scored five runs in the first two innings.
- In the fourth they stretched their lead out to 10 with five runs in the inning.
- Saint Anselm added eight runs in the fifth and five in the seventh to take game one 23-0.
Game 2:
- Saint Anselm continued to sting hits together in the first frame of game two. With runners on the corners and two outs the Hawks used back-to-back doubles to take the 3-0 lead.
- The Hawks extended their lead to four with a solo homerun to left by Mike Borrelli.
- After a leadoff walk by freshman outfielder Darion Crawford, senior third basemen Angel Mendez doubled to left and Crawford came around to score. Junior outfielder Brandon Gaul reached on a throwing error by the second basemen and Mendez scattered to third. Senior Matt Costanza pushed one through the left side and Mendez cut the deficit down to two. With the bases loaded, redshirt-junior Dalton Quinn gave AIC the one run lead with a bases clearing double.
- Saint Anselm tied the game on a leadoff homer by Brady Doran to right.
- Quinn led off the bottom of the fifth by reaching on a throwing error by the third baseman. A double by freshman Michael Nazzaro allowed Quinn to score from first. After a walk by freshman Michael Cruz, Crawford singled to third which loaded the bases. With one out and the bases juiced, Gaul hit into a fielder's choice, but it allowed Nazzaro to score and give AIC the 7-5 lead.
- The rally continued after a walk to Costanza when junior Cam Defeo walked with the bases load to extend the lead. The Hawks went to the bullpen but that did not stop the bleeding as sophomore Kyle Leifert singled up the middle and drove in two runs. Quinn, who lead off the inning was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets stranded all three.
- The runs kept coming in the bottom of the sixth. After being hit by a pitch, Cruz stole second and took third on a passed ball. Crawford made contact and singled down the left field line to score Cruz. Crawford advanced to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher which also allowed him to score.
- The Hawks scored two runs in the top of the seventh, but junior Mason St. Pierre struke out two of the final four hitters to seal the game.
