HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Golden Knights, who played under a week ago, jumped out to an early 8-0 run in the first minute and a half of the game. Senior Xion Golding nailed a jumper 1:40 into the game to score the first AIC points.
  • Trailing 15-6, AIC newcomer Franklyn Batista laid the ball in off a pass from Golding that jumpstarted a Yellow Jacket run. Classmate Tyrae Washington hit a layup off an offensive rebound to score his first points of the game. After a free throw by the Golden Knights, senior Shyheim Hicks nailed a triple to make it a five-point game.
  • The Golden Knights and Yellow Jackets traded threes on the next made baskets before senior Jordan Vidal made it a four-point game, 19-15, just before the halfway point. Washington closed the gap to one possession with a layup on the next possession. Twenty seconds later, he found himself at the line and brought the game to within one.
  • With 7:08 in the first frame, junior Walter Covington tied the game with a three off an offensive rebound to bring him up to five points for the half. The tie did not last long as the Golden Knights converted a layup on the other end. Covington stepped to the line on the next possession and tied the game with two makes. His hot streak continued as he nailed a three with under five minutes remaining until the break to give AIC the 28-27 lead.
  • The Golden Knights used an 11-6 run over the last four minutes and took a 45-34 lead into the break.
  • Out of the locker room, senior Bane Terzic scored his first points of the game from deep off the pass from freshman Donovan Miller. Saint Rose answered with a triple of their own two possessions later, but Terzic drained another deep ball from the left wing to bring it within six.
  • Under 14 minutes remained when Washington swished a three that made it a 56-52 game in favor of St. Rose. AIC forced a missed shot on the other end and Vidal grabbed the board and nailed a jumper on the other end. The Yellow Jackets had the ball underneath their basket when Vidal found Terzic for a jumper to tie the game.
  • Just as the other times before, the tie game did not stay that way for long as the Golden Knights hit a three 14 seconds later. After trading baskets, Vidal nailed a jumper to cut the AIC deficit to one, 61-60, but once again, the Golden Knights answered with a bucket of their own which sparked a 24-7 run that lasted almost seven and a half minutes.
  • AIC broke the streak with a pair of free throws from Hicks and a single freebie from Miller. The run proved to be too much for the Yellow Jackets as Saint Rose took the game 90-78.
