Batista grabs double-double in men's basketball loss

WEST HAVEN, Connecticut – The American International College men's basketball team fell to the University of New Haven on Tuesday, December 7 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Junior Walter Covington started the game with a three as the shot clock buzzer expired. Over two minutes later junior Franklyn Batista hit a layup to make it 5-0 while drawing the foul where he made the free throw.
  • With almost seven minutes gone, the Chargers tied the game at 10 before taking their first lead under a minute later.
  • Trailing 29-25 with a minute remaining in the first stanza, rookie Donovan Miller hit a layup to cut AIC's deficit down to two. Twenty seconds remained when Covington finished another layup to tie the game. Unfortunately, the Chargers hit a layup with six seconds remaining to take the 31-29 lead into the locker room.
  • After allowing a free throw 34 seconds into the second half, the Chargers held the Yellow Jackets to just three points over the next three minutes while scoring 13 points.
  • Freshman Buka Peikrishvili got the Yellow Jackets' deficit down to six on a layup with nine minutes remaining. That would be the closest the Yellow Jackets got as the Chargers took the game 69-52.
