HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • AIC generated the game's first chance as a shot by freshman Mathis Pilon St. Louis was stopped by Marc Torrado in the seventh minute.
  • The Golden Eagles took control from there, generating several corners, but were not able to convert.
  • In the 28th minute, the hosts broke through, as Emil Rasmussen fed Alexis Ledoux in the box off of the rebound from a free kick, and Ledoux tucked the ball under the crossbar. Less than a minute later, Sebastian Pavez finished on a pass from the left side by Ledoux to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
  • Six minutes later, the Golden Eagles struck again, drawing a foul to the left of the box. Ploutarchos Alonefti quickly tapped the ball to Andrian Camacho, who sent it home to give Charleston a 3-0 lead with just over 10 minutes to play in the half.
  • AIC generated a few more looks at the net in the last minutes of the frame, but could not find a goal.
  • Charleston held on in the second half, adding to its lead late as Alejandro Larrayoz put in a rebound in the 87th minute for the 4-0 final.

A SEASON TO REMEMBER:

  • While the team's run ended shy of the ultimate goal, the program set significant records and had unquestionably its best campaign since the program began in 1935.
  • The team broke its single-season wins record by four victories, and reached the NE10 Championship Game and NCAA Tournament for the first time ever. The win over Molloy was its first NCAA Tournament win.
  • The team earned a national ranking in the United Soccer Coaches poll for the first time, rising as high as 14th in the nation.
  • St. Louis' team-high 11 goals were tied for the most in a season by a Yellow Jacket since AIC Hall of Famer and all-time scoring leader Jaime Marques netted 14 in 1999.
  • Morales-Fernandez shattered the wins and shutouts records for the program with 14 and eight; the eight shutouts matched the previous record for goalkeeper wins in a season. He needs just four wins and two shutouts to surpass the career records owned by Sebastian Tamayo.
  • Team co-captain Connor Hicks played in 73 games, tying the most in a career with Sean Stevenson and Conor Doyle. His 21 games this season, alongside Lukas Kukavica, Love Lindborg, Niklas Stalzer, and St. Louis, are all new single-season highs, as the quintet played every game.
