HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Yellow Jackets had the game's first significant scoring opportunity, as a cross pass from the right side of the box by freshman Mathis Pilon St. Louis found graduate student Josip Validzic on the left, but the striker's bid was denied by a desperation diving kick save by Purple Knights goalkeeper Mathias Loft.
  • Just over two minutes later, an AIC foul led to a free kick for the guests, and Brock Martindale stung it into the upper left corner of the cage at 12:41 to give his team a 1-0 lead.
  • The Purple Knights generated a few more bids at the target, but freshman Lucas Morales-Fernandez turned aside the remaining chances to keep the score 1-0 at the break.
  • Refocused after the stoppage, AIC attacked early in the second half and it paid off, as a long pass from rookie Jordi Brinkman out of the back sent classmate Niklas Stalzer in on a breakaway toward the left post, and he tucked the ball home just 3:00 into the half, tying the game with his second of the season.
  • With the score leveled, AIC continued its barrage at the visiting goal, and took the lead in an unusual fashion, as a pass into the box was fumbled by Loft right to the feet of freshman Salim Yussif. He made the keeper pay for the mistake, immediately sending the ball into the net for his third of the season at 63:10.
  • Shortly after, Yussif and Stalzer connected on a give-and-go play, with Yussif dishing to the right side for Stalzer and Stalzer returning the ball to Yussif as he continued his run to the right post. The ball hit the twine at 81:15 for Yussif's fourth of the campaign, and put away any doubt as to the result.

A RECORD IN SIGHT:

  • Only once before has AIC scored seven wins in conference play during a season.
  • The 2005 Yellow Jackets finished NE10 action with a 7-4-2 mark.

  • AIC will go for that seventh win at Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday, October 13 at 2:00 p.m.
