HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • AIC controlled the pace of play in the early portion of the game, with several chances being turned aside by Sharks goalkeeper Garrett Metcalf, a graduate transfer from Mercyhurst University.
  • The Yellow Jackets drew the game's first penalty, but LIU scored its first goal, as Preston Brodziak dished to an open Zack Bross in the slot at 12:49 for a shorthanded goal.
  • In the second, AIC reasserted itself and the pressure paid off; as the middle of the frame approached, junior Parker Revering dumped a puck into the left-wing half wall and freshman Julius Janhonen won a battle for it, slinging it into the slot and right onto the tape of his classmate Aaron Grounds. Grounds ripped the puck into the right corner of the net at 10:01 for his third of the year.
  • AIC then took advantage of a turnover at the defensive blueline to take the lead, with senior Jeff Baum sending a breakout pass off the boards to redshirt sophomore Chris Theodore, who cut across the goalmouth and roofed his second of the season at 17:38.
  • Both teams pushed for more in the third, but Metcalf and redshirt junior Stefano Durante went save-for-save in the final frame, and even when the Sharks pulled their netminder for a sixth skater, they could not solve AIC's starter, hitting their best chance off the post late as the Yellow Jackets held on to win.
NEXT UP:
  • AIC will visit the Sharks to finish off the series on Sunday, December 3 with a 6:05 p.m. puck drop.
