HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One vs. Felician:
- The Golden Falcons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first as Nicole Spiegelberg smacked a two-run shot to right.
- AIC threatened to come right back, as junior Bonnie Kennedy led off the bottom of the first with a single and senior Olivia Gonzalez walked to follow her, but the Yellow Jackets could not bring the duo in.
- Vienna Chierchia led off the third with a double, and Spiegelberg added to her RBI totals by driving her in to make it 3-0.
- Kennedy again responded for AIC, leading off the home half of the frame with a double, and Gonzalez pushed her to third with a sacrifice bunt, but once more the offense could not bring her in.
- In the sixth, AIC finally broke through thanks to miscues by the Felician defense; Gonzalez reached on an error, as did graduate Kayla Riley. Sophomore Victoria Andrade drove Gonzalez in with a single to left, and Riley scored when junior Kacie Allison hit a grounder to the left side that the shortstop misplayed.
- Senior Lydia Depina was hit by a pitch to start the seventh, and she gained bases on a passed ball and then a wild pitch to get into scoring position. Kennedy hit a ground ball back to the mound and Depina beat the throw home to tie the game.
- In the eighth, AIC was able to work around a fielder's choice, as Allison drew two lineouts that sandwiched a strikeout. That gave the Yellow Jackets a chance to win in the bottom half, and Riley pushed junior Olivia Ortegato third by grounding out to the right side. The Golden Falcons intentionally walked the bases loaded to get a force play at home, but it did them no good as freshman Alexis Jiminez hit a single to right to drive Ortega home and win the game.
Game Two vs. Bloomfield:
- AIC started the scoring in the second, with junior Brianna Rivera working a leadoff walk and Allison following by reaching on an error. After the duo both stole bases to advance, junior Jalia Santos brought Rivera in with a single and took second on the throw, allowing Kennedy to drive both her and Allison in with a single two batters later to make it a 3-0 game.
- A pair of singles in the bottom of the third put Bloomfield on the board, as Morgan Hanus drove in Raelyn D'Onofrio.
- AIC got the run back in the next half-inning, with Allison leading off with a double to left and Santos reaching on an infield single. That allowed Depina to drive Allison in with a ground ball on the infield, making the score 4-1.
- Once again, the Bears were able to bring a run in on their next turn at the dish, as a leadoff walk and two singles brought home a tally, but AIC's bats stayed hot as Riley, Rivera, and Allison hit three straight singles, and freshman Mackenzie Berman made it four with a two-run base-hit to drive in Riley and Rivera. Santos then walked to reload the bases, and Kennedy brought Allison in with a subsequent free pass. Rookie Alexis Jiminez then singled to center to score Berman and seemingly put the game out of reach at 8-2.
- The Bears took advantage of miscues to climb back into the contest, as Jerae Keli'Ikoa walked and then Delanie Cruz doubled her home; Cruz subsequently scored on a groundout followed by a wild pitch to get the score to 8-4.
- Bloomfield cut the gap down to two in the sixth, loading the bases on a walk and two singles before Cruz drove a ball up the middle to plate a pair, but Riley was able to induce a strikeout and a flyout to leave the tying runs on base.
- AIC added to the lead in the seventh, plating an insurance run with back-to-back walks by Santos and Depina, with Depina ultimately scoring on a wild pitch after Andrade reached on a fielder's choice. The Bears could not overcome the deficit, failing to score in the last half-inning despite a two-out double, and AIC took the game 9-6.
