HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior outfielder Matt Krause started the season off with a single up with middle which second year infielder Cam Defeo followed up with a double down the left field line that gave the Yellow Jackets runners at second and third. Despite the hot start, the Buccaneers' starter Myles Gayman settled down and struck out the next three hitters.
  • In the bottom of the inning, the home team took advantage of a leadoff walk and a stolen base when Chris Cabera roped a single to centerfield. The Yellow Jackets threw home as they attempted to get the runner at the plate, but Cabera advanced to second on the throw. With a runner on third and two outs, an AIC error allowed Barry to take the 2-0 lead after a full inning of play.
  • The Buccaneers scored two run on two hits in the bottom of the third that gave them the 4-0 lead. Kemlage got a Barry hitter to swing at strike three with the bases loaded to end the inning.
  • AIC got on the board in the fourth inning as junior catcher Ian O'Brien led the inning off by wearing a pitch. Senior Shawn Boston hit a sharp ball towards the third baseman who couldn't corral the ball and recorded an error. The error allowed O'Brien to advance to third. Krause hit a grounder to the second baseman that allowed O'Brien to score.
  • Barry used a solo homerun in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth to extend their lead to five before knocking in five runs on four hits in the seventh inning. The home team brought in closer Ben Twewilliger in the ninth inning. He wasted no time as he struck out the side to end the game.
