NORTH EASTON, Massachusetts A second half surge lifted Stonehill College over the American International College men's basketball team, 72-56, in Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday, January 28.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Stonehill jumped out to an early 10-8 lead in the first four minutes of the game. Through the first eight minutes of the game senior forward Zekiah Owens produced all eight AIC points. With just under 11 minutes remaining in the first frame, redshirt sophomore Bane Terzic drilled a three to push the Yellow Jackets into double digits and made it a seven-point game.
• The home team led by 16 points with 6:38 showing on the clock, but an old fashioned three-point play by junior guard Xion Golding started a late first half surge. On the next Stonehill possession Golding denied a Skyhawk shot. Andrew Sims of Stonehill nailed a layup, but junior guard Shyheim Hicks one-upped the basket with a three while drawing the foul. He stepped up to the line and completed the four-point play. In the final minute and a half and trailing by 11, the Yellow Jackets closed out the frame on a 6-0 run that included four points by Owens. At the break the home team led 37-31.
• After the midgame talk, AIC cut its deficit down to one, 39-38, on a jumper in the paint by junior guard Jordan Vidal. The one-possession deficit stayed for almost four minutes until the Skyhawks grew their lead to five. They took the double-digit lead with 8:12 remaining in the competition. AIC tried to make pushes to get back into the game, but nine points was the closest the team could come as the Skyhawks took the game 72-56.
