HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Early in the second quarter, the Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 lead, as senior midfielder Georgia Barnes set up sophomore back Wynona Shaw for a tally at 16:47.
- The quarter rolled on for the Yellow Jackets, and two other second-year players connected for a second tally, as forward Lily Watson fed a pass to forward Sophie Schulpen to put AIC ahead 2-0 at 25:10.
- Kayla Ulrich broke the shutout at 48:50 with a goal to bring Slippery Rock within one, but sophomore Jessica Stone was unbeatable from there, helping her team hold on to a 2-1 win.
DOWN BUT NOT OUT:
- Thanks to a yellow card and then a red card, AIC played the final 22:53 down at least one player; a late green card meant Slippery Rock had an 11-on-9 advantage on the last two penalty corners of the game that it drew.
- Stone made three of her four saves in this span; astonishingly, Slippery Rock only had eight shot attempts in that time.
WINNING WAYS:
- AIC's 2-0 start is its first such opening run since 2016.
- That stretch included a 2-1 win over Slippery Rock as well.
