HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- The Yellow Jackets were off and running in the first inning. With sophomore Makaylah Mutz on first and senior Sarah Baganz on third, sophomore pitcher Kacie Allison helped her own cause with a two-run double to left field and ended up at third on the throw. She was driven in by senior Kaley Kempf on a single to left. After a half inning, the Yellow Jackets led 3-0.
- Bentley started to chip away in the bottom of the second. The Falcons used three hits and an AIC error to score two runs while leaving three on the base paths.
- Mutz was on first after being hit by a pitch when Allison dug in again. She took one to right field that drove Mutz in, but Allison was punched out at third trying to extend the hit to a triple.
- Once again, the Falcons answered. In the bottom of the third, Bentley benefited from two AIC errors to tie the game at four.
- The bats grew a little quieter as the game headed to extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth, the Falcons scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly to take the game 5-4.
Game 2:
- Bentley jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on two hits and five stolen bases.
- The Yellow Jackets got their bats going in the top of the fourth. With Baganz on second, freshman Victoria Gonzalez singled to right field to drive in a run. Mutz and Allison each singled to the left side of the field to give the Yellow Jackets the bases loaded. Sophomore Brianna Rivera came into the box and knocked the ball over the left field fence for a grand slam to make it 5-2.
- The Falcons tried to make a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning. With a runner on third and two outs, the Falcons singled to third base and a run scored to make it 5-3. They then singled through the left side and had runners on the corners before the Yellow Jackets ended the game on a groundout to third.
