HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- The Panthers came out and struck for one run in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. They continued at that pace for the next two innings as they had the 3-0 lead after three innings of play.
- Junior Olivia Gonzalez settled down in the circle in the bottom of the fourth inning as she retired the side in just eight pitches.
- The Panthers poured on the runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. They pushed four runners across the plate on four hits and one AIC error. Fortunately, AIC was able to end the threat with a strikeout while two runners were on base.
- Senior Kaley Kempf led the top of the seventh inning off with a hit-by-pitch on the sixth pitch of the at-bat. Sophomore Jalia Santos pinch ran for Kempf. Santos moved to second on a fielder's choice. With runners on the corners and two outs, sophomore Brianna Rivera hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Santos to score from third. It was not enough as the Panthers took game one 7-1.
Game 2:
- Just like game one, the Panthers pushed one run across in the bottom of the first inning to take the 1-0 lead. After leaving a man on in the bottom of the second, the Panthers added a pair of runs to their lead in the third to go up 3-0.
- In the top of the seventh, freshman Victoria Andrade led things off with a four-pitch walk. Senior Lydia DePina entered the game to pinch run for Andrade while sophomore Kacie Allison dug into the box. Allison took the 1-0 pitch and pushed it to right field for a double and gave AIC runners on second and third. That was the closest the Yellow Jackets got to making a trip around the bases as Adelphi took game two 3-0.
UP NEXT:
- The Yellow Jackets will take a much needed day off on Thursday, April 25 before hosting Pace University in a single game on Friday, April 26 with the first pitch at 3 p.m.
- On Saturday, April 27, the Yellow Jackets will honor their seniors as they play in the final home series of their career.
