HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • It did not take long for the Yellow Jackets to jump on the Lions, as the team drew the game's first penalty corner just shy of the three-minute mark; senior Jenny Holmquist fired the insert and ultimately the ball was driven toward the goal by the team, where she was able to bat home the rebound at 3:01.
  • The Lions answered back on their first corner, early in the second period. A shot by Lizzie Weiner was deflected in front for a score at 17:49.
  • AIC ended the half back in the lead, thanks to another corner, as sophomore Lily Watson stuffed a ball through a defender while along the goal line to the right of the post to freshman Na'Bree Wallace, who beat Ally Saigh at 28:40.
  • In the third, the Yellow Jackets quickly inflated the advantage; on a long hit, senior Chelsea Davis blasted the ball off of the pads of Saigh, and Holmquist was on top of the rebound, pushing it home at 35:09. AIC scored another goal off of the rebound from a Davis bid less than two minutes later, as Wynona Shaw pounced on a ball at the left side of the net, putting it home at 36:45 and knocking Saigh out of the game.
  • Molloy tried to answer, firing a pair of sharp-angle chances in rapid succession that sophomore Jessica Stone rejected with her leg pads.
  • In the fourth, Molloy managed one shot on goal, a long bid on a corner that was stopped by freshman Taylor Wildes, who played the final frame in relief of Stone; AIC held on for the 4-1 win.
GRAND FINALE FOR FOUR SENIORS:
  • Holmquist and Davis, along with fellow seniors Katelynn Leclerc and Georgia Barnes, played their final field hockey games as Yellow Jackets in the win.
  • The quartet combined for 36 goals and 23 assists despite primarily playing their careers on the defensive side of the ball, as well as 48 defensive saves.
  • On an individual level, Davis concludes her time on the field hockey pitch as the program's tenth-highest scoring player for both goals and assists, as well as the NCAA Division II defensive saves leader with 34; she led the team in scoring as a junior with six goals and 15 points and co-owns the single-season defensive saves record for the program with Katrina Heterbring '11, having led the nation with 11 as a sophomore and a junior.
  • Holmquist closed her career as the team's offensive leader this season with six goals and 15 points; her 125 shots is fifth-most in program history.
  • Leclerc's seven defensive saves this season were tops on the team and the fifth-most in a season in program history; her 12 ranks her third in AIC history, behind only Davis and Heterbring.
  • Barnes ended the season with career highs in goals and assists, leading the team in helpers with four.
THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST:
  • Wallace's goal was her first collegiate tally and proved to be the deciding one.
  • For the second year in a row, a player has scored their first goal in the finale; last season, sophomore Sophie Schulpen notched her first against LIU Post, the last game of the 2018 campaign.
TEAM RECORDS:
  • All five of the team's 10-win seasons have come this decade, with the first in 2010 and then double-digit win totals in 2011, 2014, 2016, and now 2019.
  • The team's 34 goals and 88 points are both the fifth-best totals for a campaign in program history.
  • Stone's 1.51 GAA for the season is the third-best in program history for any keeper with a minimum of 500 minutes played; her 224 career saves place her seventh in program history.
