HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Setters picked-off the Yellow Jackets on their first drive of the day. Pace was able to convert the takeaway for a touchdown on four plays and 32-yards.
  • After forcing a three-and-out with a loss of 19 yards on the drive, the Yellow Jackets took over the ball on the 50. On the first play, redshirt-sophomore running back Chase Speller broke away from the Pace defense for 20 yards. AIC fought tooth and nail for small gains until redshirt-junior running back Samad Davila ran for a six yard gain and gave AIC the 1st-and-goal from the two and forced a Pace timeout. After a Setter penalty, redshirt-sophomore Jayson DeMild took the shotgun pass from center and jumped over the defense to tie the game at seven.
  • Pace capitalized on another interception on the first AIC drive of the second quarter. This time, the Setters went 57-yards on eight plays that ended with a 12-yard rushing touchdown. Pace also scored with 34 seconds left in the first half as they entered the halfway point with the 21-7 lead.
  • The Setters kept rolling in the second half. On their first drive of the third, they capped off the 10 play, 89-yard drive with a 12-yard touchdown pass to take the 28-7 lead. The Yellow Jackets wasted no time answering the Setters' call. On 3rd-and-10, DeMild found sophomore wide receiver Jonas Espinal for the 34-yard completion as he fought through pass interference that was called on the defense. Speller carried a four-yard run down to the Pace seven and gave AIC 1st-and-goal. On the next play, DeMild sent a pass to leaking redshirt-sophomore hybrid Angel Baez on the right side who caught the pass and found his way to the end zone with 14 seconds left in the third frame. After 45 minutes of play, the Setters led the Yellow Jackets 28-13.
  • Pace fought back and extended their lead to 25-13 with 13 minutes left in the game.
  • AIC did not let the Setters slow them down on the next drive. On 2nd-and-1 with the ball on the Pace 21, Speller broke loose for a 19-yard gain and put the Yellow Jackets two yards out from the end zone. On third down, DeMild found the end zone once again as he made it a 35-19 game.
  • Trailing with the ball with 2:41 left in the game, the Yellow Jackets knew they had their work cut out for them. After an incompletion from their own 23, DeMild found junior wide receiver Josh Simon for a 30-yard reception and Simon scampered out of bounds to stop the clock. After another incompletion, DeMild scrambled for the 14-yard pick up, but it was called back on a holding penalty. With four seconds left on the clock and 25-yards to the end zone, the Yellow Jackets called a timeout to draw up a play. DeMild found graduate student wide receiver Kyle Boyer-Tucker for the 25-yard touchdown as AIC fell 35-25.

NEXT UP:
  • The Yellow Jackets will round out their home season as they host Saint Anselm on Saturday, November 9. AIC will honor their seniors as well as celebrate the 150th Anniversary of college football.
