HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Though Assumption pushed early, it was AIC striking first, as senior Jake Durham's cross into the box was headed home by freshman Tobias Paulsen at 16:18 to give AIC the lead.
  • Assumption equalized at 23:20, taking advantage of a turnover as Jason Lages fed a pass along the ground for a redirect by Kevin Hernandez after Jeremy Martin generated the turnover.
  • Hernandez nearly put his team ahead in the 31st minute, breaking in for a shot, but graduate Ben Taylor made a diving save to keep the score level.
  • The Greyhounds took their first lead of the game in the second half, as Lages blasted a free kick from the right side about 25 yards out into the right corner of the net at 65:56.
  • AIC nearly tied the game as junior Felipe Novelini took a header at the top of the box, but Sebastian Jimenez managed to get a hand on it to keep his side ahead.
  • As time wound down, the Yellow Jackets needed a goal, and got it as Novelini dove to keep a ball in-bounds to Durham, who in turn fed a through ball to junior Connor Hicks at the top of the box. Hicks ripped his shot into the lower left corner of the net at 81:35.
  • Assumption had a quick response, retaking the lead just over four minutes later on a quick breakout play, with Hernandez again providing the finish from Lages.
  • That fifth goal proved to be decisive as the Greyhounds advanced to the NE10 Championship, winning 3-2.
