HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Yellow Jackets struck on a breakout play in the ninth minute to open the scoring; senior Jacinda McCartney had a shot blocked, but the rebound bounced to rookie Cassidy McMahon for the tally at 8:46.
  • Bridgeport nearly tied the game just three minutes later, putting the ball in the net on a play that the assistant referee ruled offside. On the ensuing free kick, the Yellow Jackets gained possession, and sophomore Caroline Porter chipped a shot over the keeper that rolled into the cage at 11:39, a mere 29 seconds after the free kick from freshman goalkeeper Olivia Sousa that followed the Bridgeport offside.
  • Bridgeport had a dangerous run late in the half, but Sousa dove to deflect a cross pass from the right side of the six-yard box and the rebound was knocked away by senior Alanna Gracia before the Purple Knights could capitalize.
  • The hosts did break the shutout before halftime, as Maegen Doyle struck a shot into the low right corner of the net at 39:58 after an initial bid in was blocked by the AIC defense.
  • The Yellow Jackets nearly answered right back after AIC caught Bridgeport goalkeeper Helena Dahlstrom out of the cage, but senior Jocylyn Deome's shot was blocked aside by a defender.
  • Out of the break, Bridgeport's offense struck again; though AIC successfully cleared a corner, Marieke Kramer took a shot from distance that landed in the upper left corner of the cage at 54:00 to tie the game.
  • Once again, AIC nearly responded immediately; McCartney broke through the Bridgeport defense, but Dahlstrom got her hands on the ball to make a save.
  • Bridgeport took the lead on a corner kick in the 63rd minute, as a corner by Doyle was headed in by Annie Bjork at 62:15.
  • The hosts extended their lead to two in the 79th minute as Kramer crossed a pass from the left side to the right corner of the six-yard box for a tap-in by Nara DaCosta at 78:59, and then held on for the 4-2 win.
