HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After receiving the opening kickoff, the Yellow Jackets started to move the ball. On 2nd-and-4 on their own 35, redshirt-sophomore quarterback Jayson DeMild found graduate student wide receiver Kyle Boyer-Tucker for a 21-yard reception. After an AIC penalty, redshirt-sophomore running back Chase Speller found a gap and ran for 40 yards to the Assumption nine-yard line. The offense found itself in a sticky situation as they had 4th-and-goal on the two-yard line. Redshirt-junior Samad Davila tried to run the ball up the middle, but he was stopped short.
- The Greyhounds took the ball and marched 99 yards on 17 plays and took the 7-0 lead with 4:30 left in the opening frame. With 1:25 left in the first half, the Greyhounds picked off a DeMild pass on the Assumption seven-yard line. On the next play from the line of scrimmage, Greyhound quarterback Jordan McAfee found wide receiver Brevin Easton for the 93-yard touchdown. At the break, the Greyhounds led 14-0.
- Assumption started with the ball in the second half. On their first drive, the Greyhounds had the ball on the AIC 31 when they went for a 42-yard field goal, but the kick missed wide left.
- The Yellow Jackets started a drive with 9:59 remaining in the third quarter. The Yellow Jackets chipped their way down the field. The ball was on the 5-yard line when DeMild completed a seven-yard pass to freshman wide receiver Kequan Jamison. DeMild followed that up with another seven-yard pass, this time to Speller. After a Speller three-yard run, DeMild found junior wide receiver Josh Simon on a beautiful 23-yard pass that gave AIC the ball on the 10. On third and goal from the 10, DeMild scrambled to his left and found the back of the end zone. AIC took the risky play and went for a pair. DeMild took the shotgun snap, dropped back, and drew the defense while Boyer-Tucker slipped past the defense to the back right corner to complete the two-point conversion.
- Assumption answered on their next drive and scored on a 10-yard quarterback scramble.
- AIC had the ball with 12:05 remaining in the game after redshirt-freshman defensive back Xavier Torres picked off the Greyhounds and returned it for seven-yards. It was 1st-and-goal on the nine when DeMild couldn't get rid of the ball and was sacked for a nine-yard loss. On the next play, Davila ran what was supposed to be a corner route, but while the ball was in the air, the Assumption defender impeded his route, and flags flew. The penalty gave AIC the ball on the three. On the very next play, Davila scampered to the left side of the end zone and made it a one-score game, 21-14.
- On the ensuing kick-off, Greyhound Joseph Kellum returned the kick for 78 yards to give Assumption the ball on the AIC 10. It took just one play for the Greyhounds to score as they made it 28-14, which held as the final.
