Women's rugby dominates Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, New Hampshire - The American International College women's rugby team opened their season at Colby-Sawyer. The Yellow Jackets scored early and ran away with the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Yellow Jackets came out early as they scored three times in the first 10 minutes. Sophomore Siale Alatini scored in the first minute followed by tries by freshman Domonique Ray and sophomore Brooke Garcia in the fifth and ninth minute.
  • Junior Courtney Welsh, senior Jayda Gilmore, and junior Allyson Pothier each scored their first try of the season in the first half. Ray added two more tries while Alatini also added one more try in the first half to make it 55-0 at the break.
  • In the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Yellow Jackets scored four times, two by senior Elizabeth Harvey, one from freshman Kassidy Pothier and one by sophomore Aohilli Latu.
  • AIC went on to score eight more times in the game to take the129-0 final.

GAME NOTES:
  • The 129-0 victory is the second-biggest margin of victory in program history. The only game ahead of them is the 2015 match-up against Sacred Heart in which the Yellow Jackets won 145-7, a difference of 138 points.
  • AIC had three newcomers score in the game. Ray led the newcomers with three tries, while Kassidy Pothier and Jayda Gilmore each had one.
  • Harvey's 12 conversions are the second most in a game in program history. The only one in front of her is her sister Anne-Laurence Harvey against Sacred Heart in 2016 with 14.
