HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Southern Connecticut controlled the tempo in the first half, outshooting AIC 7-4, though the Yellow Jackets nearly scored on a shot by senior forward Meghan Brock that was defended on the goal line by Lauren Wright.
  • In the second half, AIC opened the scoring early, drawing a penalty stroke, and junior back Chelsea Davis buried it for her second of the year at 43:10; AIC had another stroke less than three minutes later, but Owls goalkeeper Brianna Craft stopped the bid by junior forward Jenny Holmquist.
  • A minute after the second penalty stroke, AIC scored again, with Brock who had been tripped on a breakaway to draw the stroke finishing a bid at 47:08 for her first of the year.
  • The Owls bounced back, drawing a yellow card and netting a goal from Jana Migliaro on a pass from Natalia Prukalski at 54:36 to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • AIC sealed the deal with two late goals; Brock netted her second at 66:16, and, after a yellow card on Craft, Davis set up junior midfielder Georgia Barnes on the penalty corner for her first of the year at 67:08.

SQUAD GOALS:
  • AIC scored four goals in a game for the first time since a 7-1 win on September 23, 2017 against New Haven; the last time the Yellow Jackets scored four times in a conference matchup was September 26, 2015 in a 5-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire.
  • Brock's pair of tallies in the matchup was the first two-goal game for a Yellow Jacket since Holmquist accomplished the feat in the win over New Haven last season.

QUOTE CIRCLE:
  • "I think that we really wanted it we played a lot of attack and were offensive-minded. One of our goals was to prove people wrong about us and I think we showed the whole conference that we aren't a team to mess with," Brock said of the team's efforts in the second half.
  • "The team was really hungry for a win tonight. We played very composed in the second half and executed in our attacking circle," head coach Rhonwen Peters said after the game. "Now we need to play with this same intensity in each of our games moving forward,"she added.
NEXT UP:
  • AIC returns home to start a three-game homestand with a Friday, October 5 matchup against No. 10 Pace that is slated to start at 6p.m. at Abdow Field.
