HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Michael's struck early, scoring twice in the first seven minutes. The game remained 2-0 until senior defender Jessica Fontana set up junior attacker Lauren Witherspoon for a goal at 11:56. The Purple Knights rebuilt their two-goal edge on a man-up goal at 14:38, but junior attacker Mary Bates had a reply at the midpoint of the half to cut into the deficit.
  • That goal sparked a run for AIC, which tied the game 3-3 less than a minute later off of the stick of freshman attacker Devin Coulter, and then the hosts took the lead on senior Brittany Hutchison's 25th of the year at 18:12. Saint Michael's tied the game at 21:43, and while both teams had chances, the score remained 4-4 at the break.
  • For over four minutes in the second half, the deadlock remained, but the visitors struck twice in 15 seconds to take a 6-4 lead at 4:36. Hutchison had a retort at 5:54, but the Purple Knights restored the two-goal edge at 7:28.
  • The score remained 7-5 for just shy of 15 minutes; AIC cut the deficit to 7-6 with 7:48 remaining on another goal by Demanche, and the team looked for an equalizer, but all the goals left in the game were for the opposing squad, with five in the final 6:28 to give the Purple Knights the 12-6 win.

RECORDS ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN:
  • On her senior night, Fontana tied the career games played mark with 67, matching Jessica Lawler '17. With one game to play, Fontana should set a new standard.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Davis scooped three ground balls, pushing her total to 66. She sits one behind Lissy Doherty's record 67 in 2013.
  • Redshirt sophomore defender Allison Roy had already broken the women's team's record for caused turnovers in a season with 31, but now stands atop the record books for both AIC lacrosse teams, passing the mark set by Quinn Smith, who had 32 caused turnovers in 2010.

UP NEXT:
  • The Yellow Jackets finish out the season on Wednesday, April 25 with a 7 p.m. start at Southern New Hampshire University.
