SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College softball team hosted the University of New Haven in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 21. The Chargers would win both games, by the score of 5-2 in the first game and 6-2 in the second game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- The Chargers wasted no time in the top of the first inning as they collected three runs on four hits in order to take the early 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the first inning, the Yellow Jackets capitalized on a couple of errors from New Haven to push a run across get within two runs of the lead.
- In the top of the second, the Chargers scored two more runs to increase their lead to 5-1.
- Having runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, senior first baseman Alexa DiLeo grounded out to score freshman left fielder Bonnie Kennedy and make it 5-2 in favor of New Haven. In the bottom of the seventh, the Yellow Jackets would groundout into a double play to end the game and suffer the 5-2 defeat.
Game 2:
- After a single through left field gave the Chargers the 1-0 lead, Jovanna Hillman would blast a two-run home run to extend the advantage to 3-0 in the top of the first inning. In the next inning, New Haven would add another run to increase their lead.
- The Yellow Jackets would get on the board in the bottom of the third when sophomore center fielder Lydia DePina would single and score junior second baseman Sarah Baganz. Later in the inning, grad student shortstop Yami Lopez-Perez would reach base on an error and allow DePina to score and make it 4-2.
- The Chargers would add to their lead in the top of the fifth by scoring another run.
- In the top of the seventh inning, New Haven would add another run and hold on for the 6-2 victory in the second game.
UP NEXT:
- AIC willclose out the series with the Chargers on Sunday, April 22 at noon.
- The contest also marks Senior Day for Lopez-Perez, DiLeo and catcher Jamie Mainez.
