HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Franklin Pierce got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI single from Mike Coggeshall.
- AIC tied the score in the bottom of the third; redshirt junior second baseman Trent Dillon notched a one-out double before advancing on a balk, and he scored on a subsequent RBI single from junior shortstop Brendan Carter to knot the game up at one run apiece.
- The Ravens took the lead back in the top of the fifth, however, and added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
- AIC put a runner into scoring position with a double from sophomore right fielder Matt Krause, but the Yellow Jackets could rally no further.
BUZZWORTHY:
- Freshman Angel Mendez, who has spent the majority of his time this season at second base, had his third appearance on the mound this year and the longest in his collegiate career; Mendez went 3.2 innings while allowing just one earned run and three hits.
- Sophomore designated hitter Matt Costanza and Carter have both recorded a hit in each of the past four games.
COACH'S CORNER:
- "We proved that we had an opportunity to win this game," said AIC baseball head coach Nick Callini. "I thought Angel threw the ball really well -he hasn't really pitched in a while, just because he's been really good for us at second base. He was in our plans to pitch today, and especially with some injuries and not knowing exactly where we're going to be, I expect him to see a little bit bigger of a role on the mound. So to see him come in and throw well was a really good positive today."
NEXT UP:
- AIC hits the road for a three-game series against Adelphi University, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 21.
- First pitch on Saturday is set for 12 p.m.
