ALBANY, N.Y.- The American International College softball team traveled to Albany, N.Y. on Wednesday, April 18 and took on the Golden Knights of The College of Saint Rose. The Yellow Jackets split with the Golden Knights, winning the first game 11-2, but dropping the finale by the score of 9-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:

• The Golden Knights got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning to lead 1-0.
• In the top of the fourth inning, AIC broke out the offense with a four-run inning. With no outs and a runner on second, senior catcherJamie Mainez homered to left center to give the Yellow Jackets the 2-1 lead. Later in the inning, sophomore Jess Lengenberg pinch hit for freshmanJalia Santos and singled to drive in two more runs.
• After Saint Rose pushed across a run in the bottom of the fourth to get within two runs of the lead, Kayla Riley delivered in the top of the fifth with an RBI single to give AIC the 5-2 advantage.
• The Yellow Jackets proceeded to really break the game open by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth. In the top of the seventh, AIC would add three more runs. Starting pitcher Ariana DiCioccio, a freshman, recorded the final three outs of the contest to finish her complete game on the mound and give the Yellow Jackets the 11-2 victory
  
• Game 2:

• The Golden Knights jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Saint Rose would add to their lead by pushing across three more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
• With a runner on first and no outs, Ryane Brush homered to give the Golden Knights a 9-0 advantage. With two outs in the top of the fifth, pinch hitter, senior Yami Lopez-Perez would single to give the Yellow Jackets their third hit of the game. Saint Rose would go on to record the final out of the contest and earn the 9-0 win in five innings.
  

UP NEXT:

• AIC willopen a three-game series at home on Saturday, April 21 against the University of New Haven. The first game will start at 11 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. contest. The series finale will be on Sunday, April 22 at Noon.
