SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts- The American International College softball team snapped a nine-game losing streak by sweeping Post University at home in a doubleheader on Thursday, April 12.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- With runners on first and third with one out in the bottom of the third, Bonnie Kennedy was tagged out between first and second base, which allowed sophomore center fielder Lydia DePina to score and give AIC a 1-0 lead.
- Having the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning, DePina drew a walk to extend the Yellow Jacket advantage to 2-0.
- Freshman Kacie Allison went three more scoreless innings on the mound to earn the complete game shutout and give AIC the 2-0 victory.
Game 2:
- The Eagles wasted no time taking the first lead in the second game as Demi Rivera scored to give Post the 1-0 lead in the top of the first. With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the second, the Yellow Jackets tied the contest up due to a walk from freshman left fielder Bonnie Kennedy.
- In the top of the third inning, the Eagles' Emily Schaffer connected on a double run that scored two runs to give Post the 3-1 lead. The Eagles were able to tack on another run in the top of the fourth to increase their lead.
- The Yellow Jackets were able to chip away at the lead when freshman shortstop Jalia Santos scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2 in Post's favor. The key point of the game for AIC came in the bottom of the fifth, when it was able to push across four more runs in order to come from behind and hold the 6-4 advantage.
- The Yellow Jackets added one more run in the bottom of the sixth to give them more insurance headed into the seventh. In the top of the seventh inning, Post made it closer by getting within two runs of the lead, but sophomore pitcher Ariana DiCioccio was able to record the final three outs to give AIC the 7-5 win.
UP NEXT:
- AIC willnow travel to Pleasantville, New York,for a three-game series with Pace University. The first game will take place at noon on Saturday, April 14, followed by the second contest at 2 p.m. The series finale will be on Sunday, April 15 with a noon first pitch.
