HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
- The Yellow Jackets attempted to strike in the first inning. With one out, graduate student Yami Lopez-Perez singled to left field to give AIC its first hit of the game. Senior Jamie Mainez singled down the left field line and Lopez-Perez advanced to second. After a walk by junior Kayla Riley that loaded the bases, the Purple Knights were able to escape unscathed.
- In the bottom of the first, the Purple Knights put three runs up one four hits, two of which went for extra bases.
- AIC wasted no returning the favor. With one out in the top of the second, junior Ashley Hughes walked and stole second. Junior Lydia DePina then laid down a bunt that was mishandled by the third baseman, allowing Hughes to score. With runners on the corners and two outs, Mainez doubled to center, allowing Lopez-Perez and DePina to score. After two-and-a-half innings, the Yellow Jackets and Purple Knights were tied at three.
- The Purple Knights scored three more runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead with just four more innings of play.
- In the top of the sixth, DePina led things off with a bunt single. She followed that up by stealing second and then rounded third and scored on an error by the catcher. With just an inning-and-a-half left, AIC led 7-6.
- The Purple Knights then found a way to tie the game and then take the lead. They scored four runs on five hits to take the game, 10-7.
Game 2:
- Things started to pick up for the Yellow Jackets in the top of the third. DePina led things off with a single to center field. A groundout by Kennedy moved DePina into scoring position at second. Lopez-Perez drove DePina home with an opposite-field single to right field.
- Down 1-0, the Purple Knights started to string hits together. It all started with a leadoff double to right-center field. The next hitter singled to right, but allowed the runner from second to score. They would add one more to take the 2-1 lead. Bridgeport went onto score two more to take the game 4-1.
