HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One:
  • Freshman pitcher Jordan Hiscoe held his own on the mound in his first collegiate start, allowing just three earned runs with two strikeouts over the course of 3.1 innings.
  • Bentley was up 3-0 through the first three innings, but added two more in the fourth inning, aided by a pair of errors, to go up 5-0.
  • Sophomore pitcher James Flahive stayed vigilant on the mound in 2.2 innings of relief, allowing just one earned run and recording two strikeouts. However, Bentley was able to add three more runs in the fifth inning, assisted by another pair of defensive miscues.
  • The Falcons added five more runs over the span of the eighth and ninth innings.
  • AIC got a run on the board in the bottom of the ninth; junior designated hitter Sam Eagan got on base with a one-out walk, and junior center fielder Josh Aviles reached on a throwing error, pushing Eagan to third base. Junior shortstop Trent Dillon then reached on an error as well, sending Eagan across home plate.

Game Two:
  • Redshirt senior pitcher Jason Coscio didn't allow any earned runs in his three innings, but Bentley was able to put one on the board off an error in the third inning, taking a 1-0 lead.
  • The Falcons added another in the top of the fourth, but the Yellow Jackets came within 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Redshirt sophomore Andrew Ciacciarelli started the frame off with a double, and junior right fielder Matthew Elliott had an RBI single to send Ciacciarelli around.
  • The game remained tight, but the Falcons were able to pull away, putting up a total of five more runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings.

BUZZWORTHY:
  • Hiscoe became the fourth Yellow Jacket to make his starting pitching debut this season, joining redshirt sophomore Joe Pepe, freshman Joe Kemlage, freshman Zac Brittain. Hiscoe previously had four appearances this season in relief.

COACH'S CORNER:
  • "Obviously, it's not the day we hoped to have," said AIC baseball coach Nick Callini. "We had some small positives - it was nice to see Jimmy Flahive bounce back from a rough outing on Thursday and throw really well today. And I thought J.T. [Hiscoe] did a nice job in a starting role today. Both those guys did what we asked them to do, and we didn't make the plays we needed to make behind them to give them success. But I think those two guys had probably the most positives of the day."

NEXT UP:
  • AIC begins Northeast-10 Conference divisional play on Wednesday, March 28 with a home contest against The College of Saint Rose.
  • First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Bedard Field.
