HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • AIC put up a five-spot in the top of the first, starting with an RBI single from redshirt sophomore first baseman Andrew Ciacciarelli. In the next at-bat, redshirt junior left fielder Reed Phillips scored on a wild pitch. After back-to-back walks by sophomore third baseman Brendan LaVallee and freshman second baseman Angel Mendez, junior center fielder Josh Aviles had a two-RBI single to bring home Ciacciarelli and LaVallee. Junior shortstop Brendan Carter later reached on an error, scoring Mendez and pushing the score to 5-0.
  • NYIT got on the board in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a passed ball to make the score 5-1.
  • Neither team scored again until the sixth inning, when the Yellow Jackets added six more runs to their lead. Freshman catcher Anthony Clark got things started with a bases-loaded walk; Ciacciarelli had a two-RBI single followed by another RBI single from LaVallee. Carter added another single to bring LaVallee across home plate and Costanza closed out the scoring for the inning with an RBI double to give the Yellow Jackets an 11-1 lead.
  • The Bears notched a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth, but the AIC lead proved insurmountable.

BUZZWORTHY:
  • AIC extends its winning streak to three games. The Yellow Jackets' most recent three-game win streak came between April 22 and 23, 2017, with three consecutive wins against Adelphi University.
  • Ciacciarelli's three RBI marks a personal best for the 2018 season. He also had multiple hits in a game for the fifth time this season; he leads AIC with 17 hits this season.

NEXT UP:
  • AIC rounds out its Florida trip with an 11 a.m. nonconference matchup against league foe Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, March 17, in Lantana, Florida.
