HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:

  • In the bottom of the first, the Eagles started to put the ball in play and put pressure on the AIC defense. With a runner on third and two outs, Thompson doubled to left center to score a run. The next hitter, Limon, singled to center and pushed Thompson across the plate to take a 2-0 lead.

  • Embry-Riddle stuck again in bottom of the fourth. The Eagles took advantage of an AIC error to score two runs on two hits and one error as they led 4-0 after four.

  • The Yellow Jackets fought back in the top of the sixth. Senior Alexa DiLeo led off the inning with a single, then freshman Jalia Santos stepped in to pinch run. Junior Lydia DePina then attempted to move Santos to second and did her job as well, as she made it safely to first.

  • After an AIC out, freshman Bonnie Kennedy put a ball in play and the Eagles' first baseman committed a throwing error and allowed Santos to score and DePina to move to third.

  • Kennedy then tried to steal second and was thrown out, but the throw down to second allowed DePina to score from third. The Yellow Jackets couldn't get any closer as the Eagles took the first game 4-2.

Game 2:

  • Just like the first game, Embry-Riddle put a couple of runs on the board in the first inning. With runners on first and second, the Eagles put the ball in play and a throwing error by the Yellow Jackets allowed on run to score and runners to advance to second and third. Two batters later, the Eagles hit a deep fly ball to right field and the runner from third tagged to give them the 2-0 lead.

  • The bottom of the second wasn't any nicer to the Yellow Jackets. With runners on first and second, the Eagles' Scott tripled to right and two runs came in. The next hitter laid down a bunt and Scott touched the plate and the Eagles went up 5-0. They went on to score two more to take the 7-0 lead.

  • Embry-Riddle then went on to score three in the bottom of the third to give them the 10-0 then two more in the bottom of the fourth to make it 12-0.

  • In the top of the fifth, the Yellow Jackets' freshman Makaylah Mutz singled to the left side for the first AIC hit of the game. Junior Ashely Hughes came in to pinch run, and came around to score on a hit by junior Kayla Riley. The Eagles ended up taking the game 12-1.

UP NEXT:

  • The Yellow Jackets will return home and have a break until March 14 when they host the Greyhounds of Assumption.
