BROOKVILLE, New York - The American International College softball team hit the field for the first time in almost 15 days as they headed to New York to take on the Pioneers of LIU Post. The Yellow Jackets fell in both games, losing by scores of 10-6 and 12-2, on Saturday, March 17.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:

• The Yellow Jackets wasted no time as with one out and freshman outfielder Bonnie Kennedy on second, senior infielder Yami Lopez-Perez knocked the ball out to left and an error by the Pioneer left fielder allowed Kennedy to score. Junior Kayla Riley singled through the left side to push home Lopez-Perez from second to make it 2-0.
• After a double down the left field line by junior Kayley Kempf, the Yellow Jackets had two in scoring position with senior Alexia DiLeo up. DiLeo singled to left and drove Riley in. Two batters later, senior catcher Jamie Mainez hit a sharp ball to third which the third basemen did not field cleanly that pushed Kempf home. After half an inning, the Yellow Jackets led 4-0.
• In the top of the fourth, with the bases loaded, Riley doubled to right center to score two and give the Yellow Jackets the 6-0 lead.
• The Pioneers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring eight runs on seven hits and two AIC errors to give them the 8-6 lead. They went on to score two more and took the first game 10-6.

Game 2:

• Just like they did in the first game, the Yellow Jackets were on the board in the first inning. With runners on second and third, Kempf singled up the middle to bring home Kennedy and give the Yellow Jackets the 1-0 lead.
• The Pioneers answered back in the bottom of the first. A lead-off double followed by a well-placed bunt gave LIU Post runners on the first and second with no outs. Back-to-back groundouts to short allowed two runs to come in and gave the Pioneers the 2-1 lead.
• The Pioneers came back to the plate in the bottom of the second and extended their lead. On five hits, the Pioneers scored six runs and took the 8-1 lead.
• In the top of the third, Lopez-Perez doubled to left with two outs. Riley hit a comebacker to the pitcher who threw it wildly over to first, allowing Lopez-Perez to score. After three innings of play, LIU Post had an 8-2 lead.
• In the bottom of the fourth, the Pioneers scored four more times, and they took the game by the 12-2 final.

UP NEXT:

• The Yellow Jackets will return home to host the Dolphins of Le Moyne on Wednesday, March 21 at 3 and 5 p.m.
