HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1 vs. Lake Erie:
- The Storm were on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, Lake Erie's Savannah Karako doubled to right center. The Storm then used back-to-back singles to drive her in and take the 1-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the third, Karako found her way to first via a walk. The Storm's Alyson Hajnosz doubled to right center and Karako crossed the plate to take the 2-0 lead.
- The Yellow Jackets' bats came alive in the bottom of the first. Junior Kayla Riley recorded AIC's first hit of the game with a single through the right side. After a single by junior Kaley Kempf, senior Alexa DiLeo laid down a bunt that forced a Storm error by the third basemen and allowed Riley to score. With freshman Julia Santos pinch running for Kempf at third and freshman Brittany Guzman at second pinch running for DiLeo, senior catcher Jamie Mainez doubled to center field that allowed Santos to score and tie the game, but Guzman was thrown out at the plate.
- A two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth by Karako put the Storm up 4-2.
- The Yellow Jackets cut their deficit down to one when junior infielder Sarah Baganz scored on a wild pitch. It would not be enough, as the Storm held off the Yellow Jackets to take the 4-3 win.
Game 2 vs. Gannon:
- In the bottom of the second, the Yellow Jackets had their first opportunity to take the lead. It all started with Kempf with the lead-off walk. After an AIC strikeout, freshman Kacie Allison singled to right field and the Yellow Jackets had runners on the first two bases. After another AIC strikeout, freshman Olivia Ortega singled to left field and Kempf was aggressive and rounded third, but did not reach the plate, as the left fielder made a great throw to eliminate the scoring opportunity.
- The Knights were very opportunistic in the top of the fifth. With one out, the Knights had the bases loaded when Lakatos singled to right field and two runs scored. The next hitter then singled to third as another run crossed to make it 3-0. The following Gannon hitter singled to right and an error by the AIC right fielder allowed another run to score. The Knights pushed five more runs across to take the game, 6-0, in five innings.
UP NEXT:
