Game 2 Final Score:
Davenport 11, AIC 1
Location:Legends Field #4, Clermont, Florida
Records:AIC falls to 0-2; Davenport goes to 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1:
  • The Yellow Jackets had their first baserunner in the bottom of the second. Senior first baseman Alexa DiLeo hit a one-hopper off the wall and reached second standing up. AIC was unable to move her across the plate.
  • The Panthers were able to get on the board first. With a runner on second, Davenport hit a deep fly ball to center and allowed a run to score; a wild throw home allowed the hitter to reach third. The next batter hit the ball to right center and the Panthers took the early 2-0 lead.
  • With runners on first and second, the Panthers' batter showed a bunt but pulled back as the runners were on the move. The throw got away from the Yellow Jackets and Davenport went up 3-0. After a walk, the Panthers hit a solid ground ball past the third baseman and another run was able to score.
  • Senior shortstop Yami Lopez-Perez started off the Yellow Jackets' seventh inning with a slow roller in front of the plate that she beat out. Kayla Riley then hit a shot to centerfield and mover Lopez-Perez over to third. Unfortunately, the Panthers took recorded three straight outs and took the game 4-0.

Game 2:
  • In the top of the second inning, the Panthers started to string things together. It all started with a battle-back walk followed by a sacrifice bunt to move the runner over the second. The Panther hitter then switched places with her teammate on a shot to right center past the diving Yellow Jacket right fielder to give them the 1-0 lead.
  • Davenport added to the lead in the third. With a runner on third, the hitter was able to push the runner across and take the 2-0 lead.
  • Senior catcher Jamie Mainez started the bottom of the third off with a single off the glove of a diving second basemen. After a strike out, the Yellow Jackets had single drop in to center to give them runners on first and second. The Panthers were able to get out of the inning without giving up a run.
  • A walk and a blooper down the first baseline gave the Panthers runners on first and second, and when a wild pitch got away, they each moved up a base. The next hitter then bounced one over the AIC third baseman to score a run. On the throw back into the infield, the Panther hitter took second to put herself into scoring position. After a pitching change, the Yellow Jackets walked the next Panther hitter to load the bases.
  • DiLeo got low and stopped a sharp ground ball and threw home to get the force out. However, the next batter hit a blooper over DiLeo's head, which allowed a run to score. A subsequent hit by pitch made it 5-0.
  • That was followed up by a two RBI single up the middle to make it 7-0, and the Panthers made it 8-0 before the frame ended.
  • Kayla Riley started the bats off for AIC in the bottom of the fourth with a double down the left field line. AIC was on the board as junior Kaley Kempf singled to right to drive in the first Yellow Jacket run of the year. AIC's inning came to an end on a nice catch by the third basemen in foul territory over the fence.
  • The Panthers added three more runs as they took the game 11-1
