HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior attack Jack McIntyre opened the scoring just 1:01 into the contest; the teams traded goals, with Post's Kyle Hewlett scoring the equalizer at 6:28 only to have Shaughnessy score from Quinn Caesar just 17 seconds later. However, two Post goals before the break would put the Eagles up 3-2 after one.
- In the middle frame, AIC caught fire. Shaughnessy scored to tie the game at 3-3 at the 1:42 mark, and then junior midfielder Matt Quinlan set up Flanagan's first career goal less than 90 seconds later. Frank Nichols Jr. scored to tie the game 4-4, but it was all AIC from there, as Shaughnessy scored a man-up goal from Caesar to complete the hat trick and then Flanagan potted his second of the frame, with freshman attack Rawill Herrera scoring to close out the period for AIC at 7-4.
- In the third, McIntyre set up Flanagan's third goal to get the ball rolling. Mark Colella scored for Post to cut the deficit back to 8-5 heading into the final frame.
- AIC took over in the fourth, with Flanagan's fourth goal coming just 55 seconds into the period; Herrera, Shaughnessy, Quinlan, and Caesar each scored as AIC blanked Post in the period, 5-0, to take the 13-5 victory.
BIG TIME WIN:
- AIC's eight-goal margin of victory is the largest since an 18-5 win against Notre Dame de Namur on March 10, 2015, which was also the last time that two players had at least four goals in one game for the Yellow Jackets.
- The last time multiple players recorded hat tricks in the same game for AIC was in a 13-10 win over Georgian Court on March 30, 2016, which is also the last time the Yellow Jackets scored 13 goals in a game.
OUT OF THE BOX:
- The Yellow Jackets stayed out of the penalty box all game; after the team's 5-for-5 when down a man against LIU Post, AIC is tied for the top man-down success rate in the nation at 100 percent.
NEXT UP:
- The team continues its road trip with a visit to St. Thomas Aquinas College on Sunday, February 25.
