Adelphi too much for men's basketball

GARDEN CITY, New York - The American International College men's basketball team headed to Long Island to take on Adelphi University on Saturday, December 8. The Yellow Jackets fell to the Panthers 75-57.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Panthers started the scoring with a layup 16 seconds into the game. They continued to score as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets scored their first basket of the game at the 17:08 mark when sophomore guard Xion Golding laid in the pass from junior guard Logan Santiago, who passed it off a steal.
  • The Yellow Jackets chipped away at the Adelphi lead as they tied the game at 15 with just over 10 minutes left in the first half. With 2:41 left in the opening frame, the Yellow Jackets were down eight. They were able to cut that in half as at the break they trailed 34-30.
  • The Panthers came out hot in the second half as they grew their lead to as many as 19 points before taking the game 75-57.

BUZZWORTHY:
  • The Yellow Jackets beat the Panthers in bench points 24-12. Twelve of AIC's bench points came from Santiago.
  • As a team, the Yellow Jackets had a season-high eight steals. Their previous high was seven against Pace on November 28.
  • For the first time this season, the Yellow Jackets tied their opponents in rebounds.
