Women's basketball cruises past Post

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's basketball team cruised past Post University 66-35 on Saturday, December 1 at Butova Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Yellow Jackets defense was active early, as senior forward Dana Watts forced a turnover on the first possession and found sophomore guard Ishanna Brown cutting to the hoop for the first two points of the game.
  • Watts would continue to stay aggressive, scoring nine points and grabbing three rebounds in the first quarter to help give AIC a 20-11 lead over Post.
  • AIC would only allow four points in the second quarter, holding the Eagles to just 15 points in the first half. The Yellow Jackets went into the break ahead of Post, 36-15,
  • Post doubled its scoring in the third, but the Yellow Jackets matched with 15 points of their own to take a 51-30 lead into the final frame.
  • AIC would start the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run, extending the lead to 31 points. The Yellow Jacket defense stayed aggressive during that run, shutting out the Eagles in the first 6:32 of the fourth. Ultimately, the Yellow Jackets would win convincingly, defeating the Eagles 66-35.

BUZZWORTHY:

  • As a team, the Yellow Jackets recorded a season-high 17 assists, passing their previous record against Saint Rose when they recorded 15 on November 17.
