New Haven spoils football homecoming

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts- The American International College Football team hosted the University of New Haven Chargers for Homecoming on Saturday, October 13, falling by a score of 33-13.

RECORDS:AIC is now 0-5 overall and 0-5 in Northeast-10 Conference play, while New Haven improves to 5-1 and 5-0 in NE10 action.

STAT LEADERS:

AIC Offense:Kwame Jarvis (22-32 passing, 210 passing yards, one touchdown), Tommy Smith (Five catches, 74 receiving yards), Lennox Green Jr. (four catches, one touchdown, 33 receiving yards)

AIC Defense:Jaysen Thompsen (11 tackles, five solo) Cyriacus Ibezim(10 tackles, four solo)

New Haven Offense:Ajee Patterson (15-30 passing, 188 passing yards, four touchdowns), AJ Greene (four catches, 85 receiving yards, one touchdown), Ju'an Williams (three catches, 60 receiving yards, one touchdown)

New Haven Defense:Shawn Tase (eight tackles, six solo) Jordan Francklin (seven tackles, five solo)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After kicking off to start the game, junior linebacker Cyriacus Ibezim picked off the Chargers to give AIC the ball at the New Haven 48 yard line. Redshirt senior quarterback Kwame Jarvis found redshirt senior Lennon Green Jr. for the 17-yard touchdown to give AIC the 7-0 lead with 10:22 in the first quarter.
  • With 1:45 left in the first quarter, the Chargers found the end zone, but sophomore defensive back Charles Robinson blocked the extra point to help retain the AIC lead.
  • The Chargers scored with 53 seconds left in the first half on a 41-yard pass to take the 13-10 lead at the break.
  • With 28 seconds left in the third quarter, the Chargers scored on a 47-yard pass to take the 20-10 lead.
  • Redshirt freshman Darryl Hill stole a pass away from a New Haven receiver to give the Yellow Jackets to the ball on the Charger 34 yard line. AIC settled for a 31-yard field goal from redshirt freshman kicker Gianni Romero to cut the New Haven lead down to one possession, 20-13.
  • With 6:37 left in the game, the Chargers made it a two-possession game on a three-yard pass, 27-13.
  • New Haven extended their lead on a pick-six with just 1:05 to go as they took the game 33-13.

GAME NOTES:

  • For the second time this season, the Yellow Jackets have picked their opponents off twice in a game. AIC accomplished the feat in the opening game of the season at LIU Post on September 8.
  • AIC's 219 receiving yards against New Haven is their second highest of the season. The Yellow Jackets had 298 receiving yards against Saint Anselm on September 22.

  • AIC will hit the road for their last two road games. They will take on Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, October 20 at 3 p.m. On the 27th, the Yellow Jackets will travel to take on Merrimack College.
