HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman guard Ishanna Brown started the scoring with a nice jumper off the first Yellow Jackets possession. Sophomore guard Rashana Siders then knocked down an open three after a Purple Knights layup to give AIC a 5-2 lead. A little under three minutes into the game, St. Michael's gained its first lead of the game, 6-5, on a Taylor Miller layup. Things were knotted up at 13 with a minute to go when the Yellow Jackets used a pair of free throws by sophomore forward Oshinofa Lakoju and a jumper by Siders with five seconds left to take the lead after 10 minutes of play.
  • Neither team added to their score in first three and a half minutes of the second quarter, but junior forward Dana Watts got AIC going with a jumper at 6:18 to increase AIC's lead to six points. The Yellow Jacket defense held the Purple Knights scoreless for the first five minutes, and just four points in the second quarter. AIC outscored the Purple Knights 11-4 in the quarter to take the 28-17 lead at the half.
  • The Yellow Jackets' most productive offensive quarter came in the third quarter, when they went off for 19 points. Just like the second quarter, the AIC defense shut down the St. Michael's offense, holding the Purple Knights to just eight points, and pushed their lead as high as 27 with 2:29 on the clock.
  • The teams traded baskets early in the fourth quarter as the Purple Knights tried to cut their deficit. The closest that they got to the Yellow Jackets was 14, as AIC continued to knock down shots and control the tempo of the game.

GAME NOTES:
  • AIC's 49 percent (25-for-51) shooting percentage is their second-best mark this season. The only game where the team shot better was against Post on December 2, when AIC shot 50 percent (31-for-62).
  • The Yellow Jackets have now jumped to 4-4 in games following a loss.
  • For the third time this season, the Yellow Jackets turned the ball over more than 20 times. However, despite the high amount of turnovers, AIC is 3-0 in those games.

NEXT UP:
  • AIC returns home for the next two contests, first hosting Bentley University in a 5:30 p.m. matchup on Wednesday, January 10.
