HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • AIC took the lead first in the 34th minute, when freshman midfielder J.P. Rylah dribbled around a defender in the box and sent the ball in to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead entering halftime.
  • Just over a minute into the second half, the Golden Knights evened things up at one score apiece with a goal from Suleiman Huruna-Iya.
  • In the 57th minute, sophomore forward Steven Hernandez converted on a pass from graduate student midfielder Alexandre Frank to bring AIC's lead back to 2-1.
  • A quick cross from freshman forward Josip Validzic led to sophomore captain Jake Durham's third goal of the year off a header, making the score 3-1 in the Yellow Jackets' favor with under four minutes remaining.

GAME NOTES:
  • This is AIC's first win in a conference opener in exactly five years - the last one came on September 12, 2012 against Le Moyne College.
  • The Yellow Jackets now move to 8-2 against Saint Rose in the teams' past 10 meetings; however, this was AIC's first win in Albany since 2011.
  • Durham, AIC's leading goal scorer a year ago, continues to average one goal per game with his third goal in three games this season.

COACH'S CORNER:
  • "I'm very pleased with how the boys responded in the game tonight," said AIC coachLuke Perry. "We took on board what we'd worked on in practice and moved the ball very well throughout the game. It's a great step forward in our ambitions to get into the top four, but we have to remember it's only one game and it's important that we prepare the right way and look ahead to Stonehill on Saturday."

PLAYER'S CORNER:
  • "It felt good - it was a relief," Rylah said of his first goal. "But most importantly we got the win. It's massive, bringing confidence, pushing on in the conference."

NEXT UP:
  • The Yellow Jackets return to Abdow Field on Saturday, September 16 to take on Stonehill College.
  • Because AIC's original home opener against the University of Bridgeport scheduled for September 5 was canceled due to lightning, Saturday's game will serve as the team's home opener.
