American International College alumnus Kevin Collins '72 was named to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2017, USA Hockey announced on Monday.
Collins, a Springfield, Massachusetts native,is the first AIC alum to earn the honor. He was a three-year letterwinner at AIC, dressing for 61 games and scoring 21 goals with 46 assists for 67 points.
Following his time at AIC, Collins embarked on a 28-year career as a National Hockey League official. He worked over 2,000 regular season and 296 postseason contests, the most of any American-born official in NHL history.
He was assigned to work a dozen Stanley Cup Finals series, including Game 7s in 1994 and 2001, for a total of 32 games, the second-most of any American official. Additionally, he worked two NHL All-Star Games and the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan.
Collins was also inducted into the AIC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.
