Panthers take first two games from softball

GARDEN CITY, New York On Friday, April 28, the American International College softball team took on Adelphi University in a double-header.
Alyssa Camargo started in the circle for the Yellow Jackets and Lindsay Mapes started for Adelphi.

AIC got on the scoreboard first when Yami Lopez-Perez singled to shortstop to score Ashley Hughes in the third inning. Lopez-Perez picked up another RBI in the fifth inning when she tripled to left field, scoring Keymell Cartwright. That concluded the scoring for the Yellow Jackets though, and then Adelphi's bats finally woke up in the bottom half of the fifth.

A single from Nicole Camera scored Nicoletta Cuccio and then a walk from Kaila Konkel with the bases loaded scored Kristin Fealy to tie the game. Adelphi's last run of the fifth came via a single from Fallon McCarthy which scored Camera.

Adelphi got right back to business in the sixth as a single from Brenna Martini scored Krista King. And then a triple from Camera put two more runs on the board as Martini and Cuccio scored to give Adelphi a 6-2 lead. Adelphi's last run of the game came from a sacrifice fly to left field by Megan Lewis, scoring Camera.

Adelphi picked up the 7-2 win and Mapes earned the win, as Camargo picked up a loss.

Sarah Beliveau started in the circle for AIC in game number two and Fealy started for Adelphi.

Adelphi didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard in the second game as they picked up three runs in the bottom of the first. Camera walked with the bases loaded to score King and then a single from Lewis scored Cuccio. A sacrifice fly from Xx Sandelier scored Camera to cap off the scoring for the first inning.

The score didn't change until the fourth inning when Adelphi's bats got hot again. Cuccio walked which scored Elisabeth Berard and then a single from Martini scored Konkel, King and Cuccio to give Adelphi a seven run lead.

AIC got two runs back in the fifth thanks to a two RBI single from Lopez-Perez, which scored Lydia DePina and Kayla Riley. The last run of the day came off a double from Jess Lingenberg which scored Ariana DiCioccio.

Beliveau got the loss for the Yellow Jackets and Fealy got the win for Adelphi. These two teams play another double-header tomorrow to close out the season.
