Softball's season comes to an end at Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, New York- The American International College softball team rounded out its season with a pair of games against the Panthers of Adelphi. The Yellow Jackets dropped both games by scores of 3-1 and 6-0.

Adelphi was first on the board in the first game. After a strikeout, the Panthers put on their next four batters. After a nine pitches, Cuccio singled up the middle to start off the rally. After advancing on a wild pitch and an error, Martini walked. Camera doubled to left center filed to push Martini and Camera across. After the first inning, the Panthers led 2-0. They went on to add another run in the second to take the 3-0 lead.

The Yellow Jackets fought back in the top of the seventh. Kaley Kempf came in to pinch hit for Alexa DiLeo and would ended up reaching on a throwing error by the pitcher. Ariana DiCioccio came in the run for Kempf and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Kristen Steele hit a shot on the ground to the third baseman, who couldn't field it cleanly, and DiCiccio pushed the lone AIC run across.

Alyssa Camargo went six innings while giving up two earned runs and striking out three. Jessica Vadala took the win for the Panthers, pitching four innings with five strikeouts.

Just as in the first game, the Panthers took the early 1-0 lead on a Martini triple while King was on first base.

In the bottom of the fifth and the bases loaded with two outs, Martini singled to right field and two Panthers scored to give Adelphi the 3-0 lead. After a walk, Rizzi singled to centerfield and two more Panthers found themselves touching the plate. Adelphi went on to add another in the sixth.

Jillian Bedard went six innings, giving up five earned runs while striking out two.

The Yellow Jackets finish the season 16-23 overall and 13-13 in conference in the final games for AIC seniors Alyssa Camargo, Kristen Steele, Jillian Bedard and Keymell Cartwright.
