The bottom of the second inning saw the Yellow Jackets break the stalemate against the Hawks, with Eugene Quirk getting hit by a pitch with one out to start the rally. Quirk advanced to second on a groundout before making his way to third on a passed ball. Matt Costanza put his stamp of approval on the inning with an RBI single up the middle to score Quirk and make it 1-0 AIC.
AIC tacked another run onto the board to make it 2-0. KJ White started the inning off with a bang, as he sent a hard hit ball past the third baseman for a leadoff single. After advancing to second base on a wild pitch, White scored on a RBI single by Matt Krause to left field.
Saint Anselm was able to score a run in the fourth inning on a 6-4-3 double play that scored a runner from third to make it 2-1. AIC countered right back in the bottom of the inning, as Andrew Ciacciareli launched a rocket to the left-center fence for a leadoff double. Costanza followed suit with a single to give AIC runners on first and second. A walk from Brendan Carter loaded the bases as a double-play hit by Josh Aviles scored Ciacciareli, pushing the score to 3-1 Yellow Jackets.
A pitcher's duel developed, as neither team was able to make a splash until the bottom of the seventh where the Yellow Jackets scored once again. Brendan LaVallee singled with two outs to keep the inning alive. LaVallee moved to second on a single past the shortstop by Nick Lavin. Ciacciareli singled to left field to score LaVallee from second base to make it 4-1.
In the top of the eight, the Hawks turned on the jets, scoring two runs to make it a one-run game. A double to center advanced a runner to third, but a throwing error was enough to allow a run to score, giving the Hawks a runner at third by the time the dust settled. The final run came from a passed ball, making it 4-3.
The Yellow Jackets regained their two-run lead in the bottom of the eight, as a sac fly out to left field allowed Carter to tag up from third base to make it 5-3.
