Softball drops pair to Chargers

WEST HAVEN, Connecticut On Saturday, April 15, the American International College softball team took on the University of New Haven in a double-header.

Sarah Beliveau started in the circle for the Yellow Jackets and Megan Butts started for UNH.
The Chargers got to Beliveau right from the start as they got on the board in the first inning. A single by Charger Devlin scored Whitlock and advanced Luzzi to third. With runners on first and third Devlin stole second and that allowed Luzzi to score.

The Chargers didn't score again until the fourth inning. With the bases loaded Luzzi singled to left and picked up two RBI as she scored Vaughan and DeLeo.
Those would be the last runs Beliveau would give up as Alyssa Camargo took over in the circle for her in the fifth inning.

UNH didn't waste any time getting to Camargo either as a homer from Colby gave UNH their fifth run of the game. Then the Chargers capped off their scoring in the sixth as a double from Vaughan scored Errera. That run was the final run of the game as UNH won 6-0.

Beliveau picked up the loss for the Yellow Jackets, giving up four runs and walking six. Butts picked up the win for the Chargers, as she pitched a complete game and only gave up two hits.

In the second game UNH held AIC scoreless again as they won 4-0. Ariana DiCioccio was the starting pitcher for the Yellow Jackets and Kylie Stonebraker started for UNH.
The game was scoreless for the first two innings but then UNH broke the deadlock in the third. Whitlock flied out to right field for a sacrifice fly RBI as it was enough to get Errera across home plate.

The Chargers really started to cause damage in the fourth inning as this is where they scored the final three runs of the game. With the bases loaded Marsello hit a ground ball and AIC tried to make a play at the plate but an error by catcher Kaley Kempf proved to be a vital one, allowing two runs to score. Then a single from Whitlock followed, scoring Marsello for the last run of the game.

UNH won 4-0 to complete their sweep of the Yellow Jackets. DiCioccio picked up the loss in game number two as she gave up three hits and four runs. Stonebraker got the win for UNH as she pitched a complete game, striking out seven.

AIC is now 14-15 (9-6) and will face Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday, April 18th, for their next game. UNH is now 24-9 (13-4) and will face SCSU on Wednesday, April 19th, for their next game.
