SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts On Tuesday, April 18, the American International College softball team hosted Southern Connecticut State University in a game rescheduled from April 1st.
The game was a pure pitcher's duel as
Sarah Beliveau of AIC and Yesenia Evaristo both pitched gems. But there could only be one winner.
AIC got on the board first by picking up a run in the third inning. A groundout from
Kristen Steele was able to score
Lydia DePina.
The Yellow Jackets 1-0 lead didn't last long as a solo home run from Jodi DiSanto in the top of the fourth tied the game.
The game remained a deadlock until the seventh inning when some sloppy fielding allowed Southern Connecticut to take the lead. Lauren Yaffa singled to right field with Zoe Fanolis on second. An error from AIC right fielder
Ashley Hughes allowed Fanolis to score and that was all the Hawks needed as they gave up no runs in the bottom of the seventh, winning the game 2-1.
SCSU is now 6-20 (2-11) and will face the University of New Haven for a double-header on Wednesday, April 19th, for their next match-up. AIC is now 14-16 (9-7) and will travel to Caldwell University in a double-header on Wednesday, April 19th, for their next match-up.
