WEST HAVEN, Connecticut -- The American International College softball team took to the field two days after its eight-game win streak was snapped. The Yellow Jackets and Chargers of New Haven kicked off a four-game series with a win each on Friday, April 14. AIC took the first game, 1-0, but fell in the second, 5-2.
The first game saw two starting pitchers that combined to gave up just four hits. The lone run of the game came in the third inning.
Sarah Baganz started things off with a six-pitch walk after falling behind 1-2.
Kristen Steele put down a beautiful bunt to move Baganz over to third.
Yami Lopez-Perez then took a 2-2 pitch into the air of right field and Baganz scored on a throwing error by the right fielder.
Sarah Beliveau went five and a third, only giving up two hits and striking out five.
Jillian Bedard came in to close out the final inning and two-thirds to earn her second save of the season.
The second game saw more offense from both teams. The Chargers were the first on the board in the second and third with a run each. In the third inning, New Haven went off for three runs on three hits to make it 5-0. AIC worked to battle back in the top of the sixth inning. Baganz led off the inning with a single to second base. Steele then went deep over the left field fence to make it a 5-2 game.
That was as close as the Yellow Jackets would get, as the Chargers took the second game by a score of 5-2. The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday at 11 a.m. and the series finale at 1 p.m.
