Women's lacrosse shut out by No. 1 Adelphi

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts The American International College women's lacrosse team took on No. 1 Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference action, falling 18-0 on Wednesday, March 8 at Abdow Field.

Adelphi moves to a perfect 3-0 on the year with a 1-0 record in conference play. AIC falls to 1-2 with an 0-1 mark in conference.

Adelphi got off to a hot start and never slowed down. Kate Beier scored the first goal a little over three minutes into the game and was assisted by Kole Pollock. Alison Johnson chipped in with another goal a little over a minute later with a free position shot. Less than two minutes later, Michele Scannell capped off the three-goal rush with her first shot of the game.

Adelphi stayed in control for the rest of the first half, leading 10-0 going into the break. They outshot AIC 24-0 in the first half and they were led by Jacqueline Jahelka, who finished with three goals in the half. Pollock and Scannell led the team in assists with two each in the first half.

Things did not get better for the Yellow Jackets in the second half, as they were outscored 8-0 and outshot 16-1 by Adelphi. Jahelka and Scannell led Adelphi in scoring for the game with three goals each, and their assist leaders were Johnson and Pollock, who also finished with three each.

AIC goalie Alexis Torosian finished with 10 saves.

The Yellow Jackets will next be in action on Saturday, March 11 when they travel to Waterbury, Connecticut, to take on Post University. Game time is set for 12 p.m.

AIC is now 1-2 and will face Post University in their next game, this Saturday, March 11. Adelphi is now 3-0 and will travel to Vermont to take on St. Michael's in NE-10 play on Saturday, March 18.
